Radical Rhubarb

There are SO many reasons to fall in love with this beauty of a fruit. Our Chef Director Nick has chosen his Top Three:

The Flavour. This Rhubarb is incredibly sweet and less bitter than your ‘average’ Rhubarb making it a real treat for the taste buds.

The Production. Grown in the Yorkshire Triangle, the production is so interesting! The Rhubarbs are grown in darkened sheds, harvested by hand using only candlelight! All to encourage and secure the very best growth, beautiful colour and exceptionally sweet flavour. More on production later.

The Season. This season is very, very short. While some might see this as a negative, we only see the positive as this only makes this wonderful fruit all the more special. Picked only at its very peak, this encourages you to savour every single mouthful👌🏼

Perfect Production

We just have to tell you more! The production process and care that goes into these Rhubarbs is quite something!

The growing process starts at least two years before when crowns are planted outside in open fields to reach maturity. Once they reach the minimum number of cold units to trigger re-growth, they are then ready to be carefully transferred to the forcing sheds and that’s where the magical growth by candlelight happens!

Impressive right? We love to hear about the production and birth of our specially chosen produce. And our Yorkshire Rhubarb’s history is definitely one that needs to be heard. Proud to have them on our shelves is an understatement. They really are the best of British 🇬🇧
